Printronix OpenPrint functionality brings the simplicity of PDF and PostScript printing together with the proven reliability and low operating cost of line matrix technology.


With OpenPrint, P8000 line matrix printers can receive PDF or PostScript output directly from any ERP, WMS, or Windows-based application. This ensures seamless integration into modern enterprise environments without the need for complex middleware or custom coding. Print quality is significantly enhanced through native PostScript font handling and built-in PDF interpretation, ensuring documents render accurately and consistently every time.




Barcode performance is optimised through Printronix SureScan technology, which automatically generates high-precision linear barcodes at the printer level to ensure maximum readability. In addition, 2D barcodes such as QR codes are supported, with quality depending on barcode size and design parameters.


OpenPrint unlocks the ability to deploy robust line matrix printing across virtually any application environment, bridging both legacy and modern systems. For organisations still operating older platforms, OpenPrint provides strong investment protection by extending the life and capability of existing infrastructure. For those transitioning to newer systems, it offers IT teams a unified, standards-based printing approach that reduces complexity, improves consistency, and lowers total cost of ownership across office, warehouse, and production environments.

OpenPrint can be enabled on P8000 Plus models via an OpenPrint Field Option Upgrade Kit, while it is included as standard on HD models, which deliver superior text and graphic quality through smaller hammer tip technology.



The system also supports high-quality graphic output, enabling clear reproduction of logos, illustrations, and other non-greyscale elements directly on forms. Embedded linear barcodes are automatically replaced with printer-generated equivalents for improved accuracy and scan reliability. A wide range of fonts is supported—from small 6-point text through to large poster-style output—with any embedded PostScript or PDF fonts reproduced faithfully at print time.


Importantly, OpenPrint eliminates the need for specialised coding when designing or modifying business forms. Users can leverage standard GUI-based form design tools, enabling faster development cycles and simpler ongoing maintenance.
